Munnar Rentals Team
Munnar is one of the rare destinations that transforms beautifully with every season — yet each transformation has its own distinct character. Whether you want crisp winter riding, monsoon mist or the vibrant green of fresh tea flushes, there's a perfect time for you.
This guide covers every month of the year, what the weather feels like on a bike, which viewpoints are accessible and what to pack. Written by the team who rides these roads year-round.
Pro tip: Whatever season you visit, our 2026 model bikes are available year-round — starting ₹399/day with free helmets and hotel delivery.
🌤️ Winter (October – February) — The Best Time Overall
Weather: Cool and dry. Daytime temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C at the highest points, with crisp clear skies most days. Nights can dip below 5°C near Top Station and Rajamala.
This is peak season and for very good reason — visibility is exceptional, all roads are accessible, and the tea gardens are at their most vibrant green. Eravikulam National Park opens fully and Nilgiri Tahr sightings are common.
What to Expect on a Bike
- All Munnar routes fully open including Top Station and Rajamala
- Early morning rides are breathtaking but extremely cold above 1,500 m
- Sunset rides at Echo Point and Pothamedu are magical
- Book your bike in advance — this is the busiest season
What to pack: Full-sleeve jacket, thermal inner, gloves, and waterproof layer for nights. Sunglasses for daytime glare on clear roads.
☀️ Summer (March – May) — Warm but Peaceful
Weather: Temperatures rise moderately to 20°C–28°C in the valleys. The hills remain pleasantly cool at 12°C–18°C. Occasional afternoon showers begin in late April and May as pre-monsoon activity starts.
This is the shoulder season — fewer tourists, easier bookings and lower accommodation rates. The Neelakurinji flowers (which bloom every 12 years) can appear in some zones during early summer if the cycle aligns. The famous Munnar Flower Show is held in March.
What to Expect on a Bike
- Ideal weather for long-distance rides — temperatures perfect for biking
- Light traffic means you can take your time at every viewpoint
- Tea gardens in full harvesting — fascinating to watch pickers at work
- By May, carry a light rain jacket — brief showers possible
What to pack: Light jacket, sunscreen, rain cover. Sunglasses essential for afternoon glare.
🌧️ Monsoon (June – September) — Misty, Magical & Quiet
Weather: Heavy rainfall, particularly in June and July. Temperatures stay between 10°C and 20°C all day. Roads become lush and deeply green — Munnar is arguably at its most beautiful. Waterfalls are in full roar.
Many travellers overlook monsoon Munnar — and that's their loss. The mist rolling through tea gardens at dawn, the thundering Attukal and Cheeyappara falls, and the near-complete absence of tourist crowds make this an extraordinary experience for those who come prepared.
What to Expect on a Bike
- Some mountain roads (Top Station, Rajamala) may be closed due to landslide risk — check conditions locally
- Our bikes are fully maintained with fresh tyres — safe on wet roads when ridden carefully
- Waterfalls are spectacular — Attukal, Cheeyappara, Valara are stunning
- Eravikulam National Park is closed June–August for calving season
- Ride slower, give extra braking distance on hairpin bends
⚠ Monsoon riding tip: Always wear a full-face helmet and rain jacket. Ride only during daylight hours. Avoid riding through standing water on unknown road sections.
